About the Language

A member of the Altay branch of the Ural-Altaic linguistic family which includes Finnish and Hungarian, Turkish is the westernmost of the Turkic languages spoken across Central Asia and is generally classified as a member of the South-West group which is also known as the Oguz group. The speakers of Turkish language are predominantly located in Turkey, Cyprus, Greece, Romania, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, and Bulgaria, Kosovo, Albania, Iraq and other eastern parts of Europe. Moreover, there are also Turkish-speaking minorities in France, UK, Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and Germany. Turkish is highly mutual intelligible to other Oghuz languages like Azeri, Turkmen, Qashqai, Gagauz, and Balkan Gagauz Turkish.

Why Learn Turkish?

Turkish has approximately 220 million speakers around the world. Turkish has gained universal language characteristic owing to its rich vocabulary, dialects and deep-rooted history. With the increasing importance of the language in the international arena, Turkish has spread to a wide geography from the North Asia to the Central Europe, from the Middle East to the Balkans. Moreover, many great literary works are in Turkish which is as old as 1250 years.
