Flemish Language Course Details
About the Language
Flemish refers to the standard Dutch language which is spoken in Belgium and adjacent areas of Netherlands by approximately three-fifths of the native population. It has a variety of dialects that contains a number of lexical and a few grammatical features; thereby distinguishing them from the standard language. The word ‘Flemish’ is derived from the name of the Country of Flanders from Middle Dutch. There are four principal Dutch dialects in Flanders, namely; Brabantian, Limburgish, East Flemish and West Flemish.
Why Learn Flemish?
Flemish being the 7th most-spoken language in Europe and about the 30th most-spoken language of the 1000s of languages spoken in the world, but even more important, the Netherlands and Belgium belong to the largest trading partners of both the UK and the US. It has made an enormous contribution in many different fields, from literature and the visual arts, architecture and interior design to popular music and sport, the modern welfare state etc. It is the modern language closest to English and thus the easiest language to learn for native speakers of English! You will positively have quick success.
Our Flemish Language Courses
Flemish Language course is based on the CEF pattern. The Common European Framework of Reference: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (CEF) is a system which could be used to compare language levels for teaching and testing languages in Europe. It was developed by the Council of Europe in order to try and set clear, attainable standards at different levels of language learning for European languages. The system is by no means perfect, but the descriptions below give some indication of the relationship between the CEF levels and standard levels used in teaching.
